The 1998 film Mulan is about a young woman Fa Mulan, who is rather tomboyish, and this frustrates her parents because during the time period women were quiet and underrepresented. When her aging father is commanded to go to war, he refuses to stay home even though he is injured; so Mulan steals his armor, disguises as young man Ping, and sets off to war, falling in love with the General Li Shang in the process.
Meanwhile, ancestral deity Mushu attempts to earn back his place among the worshipped ancestors by helping Mulan succeed in her plan, and win the war. To do so, he tricks the troop into going to the Tung Shou Pass, where they encounter and army of Huns, and although Mulan saves everyone, she is disgraced and left in the snow because they found out she was a woman.
